Grand Tour du Mont Blanc
HIKING AN ICONIC TRAIL WITH MY DAUGHTER
Read time 3 mins
The ‘Grand Tour’ of Europe was a fixture for upper-class young people coming–of–age in the 17th and 18th Centuries – to finish their education and experience other cultures.
When my youngest daughter Mia turned 18, we decided to do our own outdoorsy version of the ‘Grand Tour’, by hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc trail (TMB for short) through France, Italy, and Switzerland to celebrate her coming–of–age in the high mountains of the Alps.
The 170km route took us through sublime alpine scenery, over high mountain passes, through meadows of wildflowers, and cow-filled pastures. Completing the TMB was a physically challenging and rewarding experience that we treasure.
