Down by the River

RELAXING BY THE RIVER SENEGAL
Read time 2 mins

After dusty days travelling through the desert, being by the River Senegal felt like an archaic vision of paradise – a strip of vivid life in an otherwise unforgiving environment.

This must be how the first Portuguese visitors felt when they thought it to be a branch of the Biblical Gihon River, which flowed out of Eden.

PRACTICALITIES

I travelled along the River Senegal while working with an NGO.

Operators such as The Bou el Mogdad Cruise offer journeys along the Senegal River from Saint Louis to the trading town of Podor.

Note: I have not travelled with, and have no affiliation with these companies.
